sweatshirts n sand
looking in the distance
my mind comes back to you
as vast as the ocean blue
all i see is the sky and the sea
a couple of ships here n there
while i lay on my chest
with my head tucked on my arm
at rest
as i scribble away
on some new pages of a notebook
replay n rest
these waves replayin’
the soothin’ sounds of the ocean
i am at peace
no one can take this away from me
i gotta peace
that was bought by stripes
that should’ve hit me
another plane soaring
this life with You
could never be boring
i stop and i think
i pause and i write
something about “i love you”
just doesn’t quite suffice
when u love something
u can’t talk about it twice
u gotta talk again n again n again
them letters just don’t quite pass the test
why not?
because my love for you
can’t be boxed in a 3 word phrase
my love for you
is not just one expression
shows up everywhere
yet won’t keep you guessin’
it’s the warmth of the sun on my skin
when i’ve been stuck in the office all day
it’s lacing up my shoes
and going for a walk
with the legs i’ve been given
it’s a quick phone call
with a friend
whose voice you haven’t heard in a while
it’s leaving the cafe
with your coffee
and a stranger’s compliment
it’s the way the wind drowns out all the noise
while the waves break & crash
on this quiet ocean shore
it’s swingin’ in my living room
to a song on the highest volume
it’s a Father and His daughter
walking hand in hand
being best friends
and loving each other
despite their differences
your love makes all the difference
even when i grow indifferent
your love reminds me
that true love is found in the wind
it can’t be boxed in
unboxin’ the word of God
i read it aloud again
“Rise up! Help us!
Ransom us because of your unfailing love.”
Psalm 44:26
i’m unpacking my bags
and letting this be
where real love meets me at
rise up again
in my heart
and in my bones
weariness wears off
this help tellin’ me
i’m not alone
i need Your ransom
because all i feel is empty
ransom us
because of your unfailing love
unpack this baggage
n deliver me
next-day shipping on amazon
can’t compare
to a God who lives in me
n satisfies every need
tiny drops of ocean water
slightly skim my face
it’s your grace, oh God
i just can’t escape
i stop and i think
i pause and i write
once again
