nothing you can take from me (pt. 3)
fear, fear, putting it in last gear
pedal to the metal
i’m throwing it out the window — all this fear
that seems to take this love i hold near
what if it doesn’t work out?
what if it leaves as quickly as it enters my life?
fine! have your way! take, take, take
because this love, this faith, can never be taken away
and that’s what i hold onto today —
not the fear of tomorrow
or the pain of yesterday
my heart is in what He’s making of me & my life right here
keep me awake
settled in the things that don’t take
but only give —
give, give generously
this heart of mine that God has poured into endlessly
nothing you can take from me
was ever worth keeping
but the things i take — i freely give
this peace i have, i give away
the comfort i’ve found can be yours today
the freedom i live in, it’s here to stay
these things will never be taken away
because here on this earth, i may live for a little while
where things will be taken and exchanged
but i await an eternal reality
that, like the flip of a page, will give me the words i’ve been longing for
the sights i’ve been dying to see
the smell i’ve been longing to sense
heaven, my home, will never be taken from me
neither will my eternal inheritance
thanks for reading. ♡ i love you.
here’s some journal prompts for reflection.
1. Write about the things the world tries to take from you—your joy, your peace, your worth—but can’t, because they don’t belong to the world.
2. What has God placed in me that cannot be shaken?
3. When have I felt like something was “taken”—and how did God restore it in a new, deeper way?
this poem is inspired by the song “nothing you can take from me” performed in the Hunger Games movie: the ballad of songbirds & snakes.
